What is ACCS
The Australian Carpet Classification Scheme (ACCS), is a national carpet grading scheme covering all types of carpet and all carpet fibres
ACCS carpets are independently tested according to established procedures and internationally recognised tests.
The carpets are then graded by a Panel of experts which determines suitability for use in Residential and /or Contract installations and with different walking traffic conditions, classified by the Scheme as light; medium; heavy and extra heavy.
Carpets graded by the ACCS carry distinctive labels featuring a ‘star’ rating system – six stars for residential and four stars for contract or commercial. The more stars the better the carpet quality and performance.
The ACCS makes the process of selecting carpet easier as comparisons of expected performance can be made between products, quickly and confidently.
There are 3,500 carpets registered with the ACCS and around 300 new products are being graded each year.
All ACCS graded carpets carry a minimum two year warranty, supported by the manufacturer or supplier. The warranty does not cover carpet damaged by furniture with castor wheels

ACCS Application Process
1. Create Account
If your organisation is not already a member of ACCS, register as a user of this platform using the registration button below. If your organisation is already a member of ACCS and you need access, then ask the person in your organisation who has access to add you.
Register2. Lodge Member Application
Once you have access you can complete the application to become a member. This application will be accessed by the ACCS administrator who will contact you to confirm your membership.
3. Submit Carpet Grading Application
Once you are an ACCS member you can create a new carpet on the ACCS system, provide the required data about the carpet and submit it for certification. The ACCS administer will contact you if further information is required.
4. Certification
Your application will be accessed by the ACCS Panel, and a grading applied to your carpet. You will be provided with a label number and certificate which can be downloaded from the ACCS system.

Scheme Labels
The yellow and blue label
The yellow and blue labels identify carpets that have been graded for residential use. Residential ratings can have a maximum of six stars. The Star system of rating allows you to quickly decide which carpet is suitable for your needs.
The gold and black label
The gold and black labels identify carpets graded for contract or commercial use. Contract ratings can have a maximum of four stars. Some carpets will carry both Residential and Contract gradings.
Carpet Classification Categories & Guidelines
Carpets are classified under the ACCS according to their performance characteristics. The carpet classification is determined using technical data supplied by manufacturers and results from testing conducted by independent (NATA or equivalent) laboratories.
An expert panel assesses the test results and samples of carpet provided by the manufacturer to determine a ‘star’ classification for that particular carpet, which relates to the performance characteristics of the carpet. The more stars the higher the ACCS grading. Carpets are classified according to suitability for use in residential and/or contract installations and in different walking ‘traffic’ conditions described as light, medium, heavy and extra heavy.
In determining the ACCS end-use classification, the overriding criterion is the appearance retention properties of the carpet. Carpets submitted to the ACCS must also meet minimum standards for a range of construction and performance properties before they will be graded.
